Judge Donine Carrington was the first in her family to graduate from college and Law School.  During her law school career, she participated in Moot Court Honor Society and the Criminal Law Clinic called the Innocence Project.  She was studying under Prof. Barry Scheck, the DNA legal expert on the “OJ Simpson” case.

After graduating from law school, she began her law career by clerking for the Hon. DeLawrence Beard.  She immediately became active in the local Bar associations.  After her one year clerkship she was sworn in as an Asst. State’s Attorney.  During her tenure as an Asst. State’s Attorney she prosecuted adult and juvenile misdemeanors and felonies.  She ended her tenure at that time as an Asst State’s Attorney by prosecuting a Domestic Violence Homicide case.

Judge Carrington, then continued her legal career by working with a medium sized law firm, practicing civil, criminal, domestic, and law.  During this time she opened her own candle business, based upon her love of candles.

After several tragic and accidental deaths in her family she returned to her former role as an Asst. State’s Attorney.  Judge Carrington became the chief of the Special Victims Unit and led the unit tasked with prosecuting domestic violence assaults and homicides, child physical, sexual abuse, and child abuse homicide cases.  Through her tenure their she prosecuted and secured several high profile baby homicide convictions and teacher charged child pornography convictions.  She has also taught criminal law and victimization to undergraduates  and law enforcement officers for over fourteen years.

Judge Carrington not only brings a breadth of professional experience, her background as a prosecutor, general civil practitioner, college professor and entrepreneur coupled with her life experience’s ensure that she is a fair and knowledgeable jurist.  For all of these reasons, she is uniquely qualified to retain her appointment to the Circuit Court of Charles County.

During her time as a prosecutor in Prince George’s County she was designated as a special prosecutor for cases in Charles County when a conflict existed in the Charles County State’s Attorney’s office.  In that role Judge Carrington, appeared in Charles County District and Circuit courts, and has participated in a lengthy grand jury investigation.
